COVID and Online Lesson Policies

In-Person Lesson Protocols (updated June 2023)

Private Studio

Anyone entering the studio (adults and children), must supply and wear well-fitting, KN95 style masks (or similar with adequate filter) for their lesson. Bandanas, cloth masks without filters, and vented masks are not permitted. There is a supply of child and adult sized masks at the studio in case of emergency.

Please refrain from bringing guests and additional children with you when possible.

If you are actively sick in any way, or have tested positive for Covid in the last 2 weeks, lessons will be moved online. If you arrive at the studio ill, you will be asked to leave and the lesson will not be made up.

If your teacher needs to move the lesson online, you will receive an email as soon as possible. If you miss this email, the lesson will only be made up if you were informed with less than 2 hours notice.

Group Classes and Recitals

Masks are still recommended, though not required unless you have been recently sick, or have a persistent cough.

Online Lesson Info:

Your zoom name must be either that of the student or that of the primary practice parent. Unknown names (“ipad” or the name of another family member) will not be admitted to group lessons for privacy reasons.

Your camera and screen must be at eye level to maintain correct posture. Inadequate camera placement will delay the start of the lesson.

Place your music stand to the left of the student, so the scroll is pointing toward the sheet music (if you don’t have a music stand, now is the time to get one!)

Students are encouraged to record any part of a lesson to aid in home practice.

Should a power outage or poor internet connection prevent you from attending a private lesson, please inform me immediately. First, we will attempt to reschedule the lesson. If this is not possible, we will use Marco Polo, a video sharing app where you can receive and, if you choose to, send videos for feedback.

Should internet connection impede the lesson significantly, a speed test will be done. If the speed is determined to be inadequate, the lesson will be made up or offered via Marco Polo. However, if the internet speed is determined to be adequate, and thus lag is caused on the end of the student, the zoom session will end and the student will receive lessons via Marco Polo.
